General Description

This stunning 17th century chateau, found just 80km south of Limoges in picturesque rolling countryside, is the ideal base to explore the beautiful region of the Dordogne. The Chateau is set within 15 acres of spacious grounds, gardens and orchards that open out onto to a lake with private woodland paths that lend themselves to leisurely strolls. The Chateau had been in the same family for over 300 years – the Comtes de Tessyiere military family – and is the epitome of 17th century manor living. Now restored, all the rooms are individually furnished to an exceedingly high standard and are full of authentic French fabrics, antiques and silks. The chateau is poised on elevated ground overlooking the park and an elegant 12 acre Arboretum. The spacious inter-connecting salons guarantee a lovely temperature in both summer and winter.

Accommodation Facilities

Bedrooms: On the first floor there are four grand double bedroom suites with antique furniture and polished wood floorboards. Each has an en-suite bathroom and is decorated with wallpaper and fabrics.

On the second floor there are two more twin bedrooms that also have en-suite bathrooms and antique furniture and a couple of bedrooms that are suitable for children or teenagers.
Kitchen: For smaller parties the kitchen can also be used as a dining space and comes with open fire & seating. It is also stocked with 2 dishwashers, 2 fridges, microwave, fitted units and a stone sink. Just off the kitchen is a versatile utility room with a laundry & scullery as well as a pool changing/shower room.
Living Rooms: A stone flagged entrance hall that leads up to a Grand Salon with antique furniture opens the chateau. The dining room has a large oak table and easily seats 12. There is also a billiard room close by with inter connecting doors to the bureau and petit salon.
Linen/Cleaning/Towels etc: Fresh linen is provided and twice weekly cleaning is included in the price.
All linen and bath towels included in the price.
Outside: The beautiful gardens feature an extensive arboretum overlooking a lake so that you may enjoy walks throughout the park. A large private swimming pool (fenced & alarmed) is situated in the middle of the wild flower meadow. On either side of the house there are two dining terraces: one that sits next to the kitchen with a large round table ideal for family lunches in the shade of an ancient box tree with views stretching out across the valley. The other terrace is more formal and accessed from the salons for drinks or a quiet evening meal.
Additional notes (if any): The Chateau is not suitable for children under 12.

Catering & Services

The chateau is rented on a self-catering basis but there is a resident cook/housekeeper who lives in her own house on the estate who can provide meals for you if you wish. Further assistance such as baby sitting and evening meals can be provided at additional charge. Please enquire at time of booking.

Hosted Breaks - We can provide a unique package where the Chateau is exclusively yours to enjoy without any of the worries and effort of having to cater for yourselves. You can experience the pure pleasure of being looked after by a small but perfectly formed team led by your host Guy Wolley.

Guy Wolley trained in London with The Savoy Group, with stints at The Savoy, Claridges, The Connaught and the Berkeley before settling in Paris for a few years to learn both the language and the cuisine of France. Returning to England, he set up and ran his own French restaurants and delicatessens in London. An experienced chef, TV presenter, writer and acknowledged authority on all things gastronomic, he has a profound love and understanding of France. He will organise excursions, tastings, evening entertainment and do everything to ensure that your stay is perfect. He is the ideal, intuitive, discreet host who will provide as much, or as little, attention as you desire, always with a smile and often with a corkscrew.

Breakfast: Bread and croissants, eggs and bacon, smoked salmon and scrambled eggs, omelettes and ham, eggs Benedict, yoghurt and granola, local jams and honey, fruits and juices – prepared by Guy (who has never forgotten what he learnt as breakfast chef at The Savoy some years ago!).

Lunch: A light lunch: bread, local charcuterie and cheese, salads, fruit and wine from Bergerac served in the kitchen or on one of the terraces. Picnics can be provided if you are out on an adventure. If you prefer to lunch out, then Guy can recommend and secure reservations at a number of excellent restaurants.

Dinner: served in the dining room.

You will experience traditional French country cooking at its very best. Local ingredients are always used and menus change according to season. Of course requests and suggestions from guests are welcome and accommodated where possible.

Please enquire at time of booking to arrange any of these services.
