South of France and the Riviera

The South of France is the country’s most popular holiday destination, stretching along the Mediterranean coast from the Spanish border in the west to the Italian border in the east. It takes in the regions of Languedoc-Roussillon and Provence-Alpes-Cote d’Azur where you can enjoy wonderful wines, visit the region’s Roman past, view stunning natural landscapes, and experience the brash resorts of the Riviera.

The French Mediterranean coastline is well known as the playground of the rich and famous. To the east of the trading port of Marseille, with its diverse cultures heavily influenced by north Africa, are the chicest resorts on the Cote d’Azur, where you can experience the glitz of St Tropez, the sophistication of Nice, and the Principality of Monaco. To the west of Marseille are low-lying sandy shores with modern beach cities, historic towns, quieter villages and the famous wildlife-rich lagoons of the Camargue region.

Inland you will find a great diversity of landscapes: the wild high country of the Causses around the spectacular Gorges du Tarn in the west, to the dry, harsher landscapes of the Cevennes in the middle, to the rugged hills and rolling farmland of Provence to the east. The fertile valley of the Rhone stretches up from the coast in the centre all the way to the major city of Lyon. On the far most eastern border with Switzerland and Italy is mountainous country popular with hikers and skiers.

People who searched for holiday rentals in South of France and the Riviera also searched for holiday rentals in Languedoc-Roussillon and holiday rentals in Provence and the Cote-d’Azur.
